Alright friends, I can see the weekend peaking through! I don’t know about you but, I’m always super pumped to see the weekend. And then…. I get super anxious when I don’t have any weekend activities for the kiddos. One house, three rambunctious boys, for two straight days. It can get overwhelming at times. But there is one thing I have found true for boys at any age. They love to eat!! Hey, I don’t discriminate. I am a total food lover myself. In my quest to come up with something for the boys to do over the weekend, I came across these apple donuts and they are the bomb, y’all! These were super fun for the boys to get creative with. And here’s the fist pump for ya mama, they don’t make a huge mess! Can I get an amen?!
These were so exciting for the boys! I mean, anytime I bring out sprinkles I get to wear the cool mom button! It’s the little wins in life, right? And this treat is a double win. Sprinkles + apples- kids are pumped and so is mama! And I seriously cannot tell you how simple they were. Are you ready to make your kiddos day? These will literally take 10 minutes.
Start with de-coring your apple. I’ll confess I felt like a total goob when I was doing this. As I was attempting to de-core the apples, it quickly hit me that I had never actually tried to do this and keep the apple intact, palm to face! Once your apple is de-cored, slice it into rings.
Here is a trick that I learned and you will definitely want to do this if you are planning on storing these. Soak you apple rings in a bowl of lemon water. This will keep the apples from turning brown before the kiddos can dig into them!
Next, is the fun part!! In a microwave safe bowl, heat Nutella for 15 seconds. Stir and continue in 10 second increments until melted. Warning, it is easy to over heat and burn- trust me! Drizzle the melted Nutella over the apple rings. Repeat the with the peanut butter. Then add the sprinkles!
With fall heading this way, ya know when God decides to take Mississippi out of the deep fryer, I’ve been on the scout for some fun fall treats to whip up. And these are perfect fall and Halloween parties! Add some pumpkin sprinkles and they will be a hit!!
