As I was running around like a mad woman this morning getting myself dressed and all three boys clothed, making sure whoever had swim day was in their swimmies, whoever was going on a field trip had on their school shirt and whoever was supposed to bring a sack lunch had it in tow! As for myself, I wasn’t rushing off to a 9-5er. I wasn’t worried about making sure I don’t get yelled at by my boss for being late because I evaded and negotiated 42 toddler hostile meltdowns, lost a shoe [in the toilet], and refereed no less than 5 WWF match-ups all before 7AM! Nope, I was headed to my very own [tiny] office to get started on my very own chores and tasks for my OWN business(es)!
Over the course of the last year or so, I have evolved into someone that even surprised my own husband. I have transitioned from being a full time nurse to full fledge entrepreneur! I signed on to be a managing partner of a wedding venue, The Opera House 1853. I founded and have been busting my bum getting a new wedding publications launched and printed by January [check out The Registry if your looking for Mississippi’s most sought after vendors]. And obvi I just began this lifestyle site for my own enjoyment, all the while hobbling around with three toddlers attached to my legs! This all seems so crazy, nearly certifiable, to some family members and friends even. I cannot tell you how many times I have been accused of being a glutton for punishment.
SO what’s the deal?!
The deal with Millenials and their vigorous side hustles I mean! Oh, you thought I was the only one off my rocker?! Not hardly! There’s a lot of negative to be said about the Millennial generation, some points that I can actually get behind even though I technically am one! I’m sorry but there are no safe spaces in the real world! BUT, here’s one thing we do have, Millennials LOVE this side hustle sitch! Running in 100 directions, trying to turn a dollar, coming up with out of the box pathways for success. Is it hard, 1000%. Are we tired? Oh, no doubt! Heck, I’m one interrupted sleep away from Walking Dead status!
It’s simply the pride of exhaustion! I’m proud that my world can manage to spin in 5 different directions. It has made me productive, efficient, and grateful! Do I ever want to just sit? Absolutely, and sometimes I do. Every now and then, a day comes up that I have planned out all kind of productive tasks and end up on the couch [typically, still writing, researching, or working in some form, but on the couch nonetheless]. But here’s what should be acknowledged about us millennial entrepreneurs, we can schedule a whole weeks worth of social media while doing squats. We eat lunch in the car between meetings with clients. We can write a meaningful blog post or business proposal, while feeding multiple kids dinner. After singing bed time songs and getting babes down, we don’t hit the hay, we stay up several hours scouting out content for our website, better ways to promote our clients, and new clients to add to our community!
So what’s my point?!
My first point is, if you’re reading this and you’ve been watching kids around you chasing dreams and shaking your head, don’t discount us just yet. It’s a new era and there’s always “The Next Big Thing”. You never know who will find it and run with it!
My second, if you are the millenial I’m talking about, don’t stop!! You’re pretty bad A, honestly. We may be called dreamers, but we aren’t the ones sleeping now are we? This hustle life isn’t easy but I guarantee it will be worth it in the end!
